Football Predictions Week 18

The longest regular season in NFL history is set to come to an end in Week 18 but don’t worry, there’s still plenty to play for. Three playoff spots are still up for grabs and five different teams in the AFC still have a shot at the No. 1 seed, among the numerous potential seeding scenarios that are possible in both conferences. And on top of all this, it’s all divisional games in Week 18.

The action gets started on Saturday with Kansas City taking on Denver and Dallas facing Philadelphia. The Chiefs have already secured the division but a win over the Broncos and a Tennessee loss would give the defending AFC champs home-field advantage. Both the Cowboys and Eagles are in the postseason but their seeding has yet to be determined and neither team wants to go into the Wild Card Round with a loss.

On Sunday, the most critical game to the playoff picture in the 1 p.m. ET window will take place in Jacksonville. After coming up short last week at home against Las Vegas, Indianapolis can claim one of the two remaining wild-card berths in the AFC with a victory over the lowly Jaguars.

Elsewhere, the aforementioned Titans can sew up the No. 1 seed in the AFC with a road win in Houston. The Texans knocked off Tennessee in Nashville back in Week 11. Likewise, AFC North champ Cincinnati also is looking to even the season series, and potentially improve its seed, with a win in Cleveland over the reeling Browns. And the other AFC North matchup finds Pittsburgh in Baltimore. The Steelers have to win to keep their playoff hopes alive (also need Colts to lose), but this also feels like the appropriate final opponent for Ben Roethlisberger to end his career against. The Ravens, who have lost five in a row, aren’t officially eliminated, but need to beat the Steelers and get a lot of help to make the postseason.

Even more intrigue awaits later in the afternoon. The focus will be on the New Orleans-Atlanta and San Francisco-Los Angeles Rams matchups. A win by the 49ers puts them in the playoffs or the Saints can sneak in with a victory over the Falcons and a loss by San Francisco.

Meanwhile, the Rams take the NFC West and the No 2 seed (Green Bay has home-field advantage and the first-round bye) with a win vs. San Francisco. A loss by the Rams and a win by Arizona (vs. Seattle) gives the division to the Cardinals. And not to be forgotten, Tampa Bay can still wind up with the No. 2 seed with a win at home over Carolina and a loss by Los Angeles. Green Bay sewed up home-field advantage and the first-round bye with its win over Minnesota on Sunday night.

In the AFC, Buffalo can claim its second straight AFC East title with a home win over the Jets, but the Patriots can dethrone the Bills with a Buffalo loss and a win down in Miami.

And then there’s “Sunday Night Football” between the Los Angeles Chargers and Las Vegas Raiders. The final game of the 18-week regular season is a “win and you’re in” situation for the two AFC West rivals. Las Vegas also can get in with losses by both Indianapolis and Pittsburgh, just one of the numerous playoff scenarios that exist in Week 18. So buckle up, it should be a fantastic finish.
